She started as a damn fool hermit, went on a journey, and gained the World.
Okay, it's not quite that simple. But no one would have expected the turbo-introverted, booksmart but heart-foolish Twilight Sparkle, of all ponies (or any other being), to earn the wings, horn and hooves of an Alicorn Princess by comprehending the true nature of friendship... except, of course, her mentor, theHigh? Princess Celestia, who was kind of counting on it.
She's still, to this day, more comfortable with a checklist in hand and room to think than she is improvising, but that's alright, and she can plan around that. She no longer dismisses the hunches and intuitions of her slightly psychic friend in Pinkie. She's become tolerant of quirkiness and healthy arguments but quick to stamp out real toxicity.
She has learned how to fight for her friends and her people across two worlds, both in a more metaphorical sense and in hoof-to-hoof combat with those enemies who pretty speeches won't work on. She's no stranger to either spiritual or physical combat, though she wouldn't put it in those terms.
She's become aware of most of her faults, cursing herself for falling prey to her hidebound tendencies and her catastrophizing yet again, then she gets to work fixing her messes or delegating her coping skills to her friends.
She's gotten to the point where she, herself, has taken on students, fretting about her new fool's quest as a teacher to a very different kind of heroine than she is.
She has, in short, goddamn earned the moonbanished crown of the Princess of Friendship. What drives her is the certain knowledge that no one is an island, and no one needs to be alone, if they don't want to be. She fights with and for the knowledge that friendship is a kind of magic all it's own.
Etc: Canon is vague on the, uh, canonicity of Equestria Girls. This take on her has definitely been to the Mirror Universe with those strange sapient primates, partially to lessen the shock to her world when she Awakens and partially so herTRUE SELF form will be a 'ponied up' humanoid, like so.
